The Gay Blacks were successfully launched on Wednesday 28 September 2005 at Jimmy's Bar, St. James Theatre, Courtenay Place, Wellington. Speaking on the night were Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast, Canadian High Commissioner Penny Reddie, US Embassey official Jason Kalbfleisch and SPARC CEO Nick Hill.

On display for the first time was the Gay Blacks uniform which was received positively by those attending on the night.

Wellington Mayor, Kerry Prendergast flanked by Gay Black models Eve & Don. Ms Prendergast launched Team Wellington in 2002 and endorsed our 2006 campaign
to Chicago and Montreal. Quote for the night "Give them a taste of Kiwi!"
